Trump announces. Country loses mind.
Random thoughts on the reaction from Trump's 2024 candidate news
As if it was not expected for some time, former president Donald J. Trump announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election. No doubt, many of the opinion pieces linked below were in some shape already in the hopper ready to go as soon as he made the announcement.
This post is not to show favor towards the former billionaire to win a second term. Nor is it to dismiss his chances out of hand. Only to point out that many variables remain in play, and the 2024 Election remains a lifetime away in regards to how much will change. Scoffing the former president’s chance at winning would be folly. Depending on one’s faith in the election process, Trump tallied over 74 million votes. That is a sizable part of the electorate. He still commands a substantial base of voters who, come hell or high water, will vote for him.
Too many hot takes published in the media on the event are nothing but articles written to fill quotas, and the desire to write something upon his announcement. Most of the articles have an air of virtue signaling, as if to say, “I’m a good person! Orange Man Bad!” These are expected from a mostly compliant liberal-progressive media. Yet the fact remains that reality exists whether one believes in it or not. To paraphrase former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, “There are known knowns, unknown knowns, and unknown unknowns.” Sounds confusing? Simply put, there are variables we can plan for, and variables that will come up unexpectedly. This applies to where the country will find herself in two years.
However, searching through these articles I cannot find any deep analysis for projections on the state of America in two years. Most commit the fallacy of not acknowledging how different the conditions will be come election day 2024. Economic factors of inflation, wages, and the creeping up cost of living are not going away. Indicators in the markets, as well as planned corporate layoffs do not paint a rosy picture for America down the road. Rent levels and housing markets rising to the point where a large portion of our citizens cannot afford to buy a home, and are clinging onto their socioeconomic level by the fingertips. The culture wars do not show any signs of dying down either. Politicians of all stripes will continue speeches peppered with bromides like, “The Soul of our Nation is at stake,” or “That’s not who we are.” Therefore, the temperature in the country shows no sign of lowering.
This includes the rest of the world as well. The geo-political status will be anyone’s guess at the time of election. As we find the world moving towards a multipolar stance, countries including China, Russia, and India will begin to assert themselves economically.
Many feel the changes happening in the country, if even only on a subliminal level. The 2024 election results could reflect that.
