Africa and the Post-WWII/Cold War Narrative
Historical Perceptions vs. Reality
This was a really fun discussion.
I join The Toxic American Podcast to discuss the narratives surrounding the continent of Africa in Post-WWII and throughout the Cold War era. We dive into the well-worn version that is presented of plucky African nations crawling out from colonialism, yearning for the warmth of Liberal Democracy™️ and a slice of Uncle Sam’s Apple Pie.
Yeah, we mostly tear apart that fairytale.
A better recollection of the struggle amongst the superpowers on the continent (USA, USSR, China) is a tale of opportunism, tragedy, and yes, a lot of dark humor amongst the chaos.
